Antonovich Seeks Probe Following Death Of Palmdale Boy, 8

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich is calling for an investigation into the handling of a case involving a Palmdale boy who died Friday of alleged child abuse.

Tony Bell, a Communications Deputy, said in a statement that Antonovich has asked the director of the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) to investigate the social workers and supervisors involved in the 8-year-old boy's case.

"We need to know where the breakdown was in the services recommended and why this child was not removed from those living conditions," Antonovich said.

The boy was pronounced dead about 3 p.m. Friday, a day after police say he was severely beaten.

The child had sustained a fractured skull, broken ribs, and burns over his body, police said.

The child's mother, 29-year-old Pearl Fernandez, and her boyfriend, 33-year-old Isauro Aguirre, were arrested Thursday in connection with the alleged attack.

Both are expected to be arraigned Tuesday.
