Man, 28, Sexually Assaults, Robs Woman While Pretending To Be Cop

EL SEGUNDO (CBSLA.com) — A 28-year-old man has been accused of sexually assaulting and robbing a woman at an El Segundo hotel, all while pretending to be a police officer conducting a prostitution "sting operation."

Wesley Robert Stepp, 28, was arrested in Los Angeles on suspicion of robbery and false imprisonment while impersonating a police officer.

The suspect arranged the meeting with the victim through a website, according to police.

Authorities said Stepp fled with a second suspect before he was taken into custody.

The other man was able to escape and is now being sought on a robbery allegation. He's described as African American, 28 to 35 years old, 6 feet 1, 170 pounds, with a bald head and a goatee.

Anyone with information about the case was encouraged to contact El Segundo police Det. Jeff Humphrey at (310) 524-2284.
