Local Loved Ones Of Child Killed By Tornado Mourn Her Loss

INGLEWOOD (CBSLA.com) — One of the children killed by the massive tornado in Oklahoma on Monday has deep ties to some residents in Southern California -- and they are speaking out about the tragic loss.

Ja'Nae Hornsby, 9, one of the Plaza Towers Elementary School students killed by the deadly tornado, has family in Inglewood who are devastated by the news of her death.

Hornsby's father reportedly hurried to the school, but was too late, and discovered that the school was not there when he arrived.

"I had to park around the corner from the school," Ja'Nae's father said. "And when I hit the corner, so I could see the school, the school was gone. And my heart just sank."

Ja'Nae's great aunt reported that part of their family relocated to Oklahoma, and said that Ja'Nae, whom she last saw at a family reunion, was a joy to be around.

"I treasured all of my time with her, any chance I got to spend time with her, I was enjoying all of it," Ja'Nae's father said. "All of it was special to me."
