Nurse Sentenced To 10 Years On Child Porn Charge

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — A Riverside County nurse who pleaded guilty after being caught by federal investigators in a child pornography sting was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison Monday.

Registered Nurse David Christopher Jelaca, 38, was arrested after federal agents began communicating with him in response to a Craiglist ad. Agents who searched his La Quinta home found more than 26,000 images and 55 video files containing child pornography.

In March, Jelaca pleaded guilty to attempted distribution of child pornography to a minor.

The sentence was part of the plea agreement after Jelaca was originally charged with four felony counts.

The charges came out of a federal investigation initiated jointly by the Department of Justice and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

Undercover agents from both agencies formed the Imperial Valley Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, which caught several other Inland Empire men in 2011.
