Suspicious Device Left Outside Woodland Hills Pep Boys

WOODLAND HILLS (CBSLA.com) — Officials spent hours Sunday investigating a strange and suspicious package left outside a Woodland Hills Pep Boys.

After detonation, authorities said the package -- thought to possibly be explosives -- turned out to be a lot of marijuana.

CBS2's Art Barron reported from the scene.

The discovery of the device outside the Pep Boys at Victory and Fallbrook around 12:45 p.m.  forced a block of Victory to be closed for hours.

LAPD Lt. Sonia Monico said, "We try not to disrupt the traffic. Luckily it was a Sunday. Most of the businesses around here were closed ... We try to inconvenience the less number of people we can."

Authorities also evacuated the store.

Barron said the discovery of the device touched off a "flurry" of police activity.

Police used a robotic officer to retrieve the device. The bomb squad blew it up.

No one was hurt.

The investigation is on-going.
