1 Killed When BMW Plows Into Costa Mesa Tree

COSTA MESA (CBSLA.com) — Costa Mesa police Saturday said a 33-year-old man has been killed in a collision in front of the Ayres Suites Hotel.

Officers said in a department statement that the victim from Irvine was driving a grey BMW coupe when witnesses say he lost control and crashed into a tree.

The accident on Bristol Street occurred about 9:03 p.m. Friday.

Police said the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger inside the vehicle, identified as a 21-year-old woman, sustained head trauma and fractured ribs.

She was taken to Western Medical Center for treatment.

The statement said both occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.

No further information was provided.
