Police Hunt For Man Who Fatally Shot Father In Head In Canyon Country

CANYON COUNTRY (CBSLA.com) — Authorities are on the hunt for a man they claim shot his father to death in Canyon Country Thursday night.

The incident happened around 11:50 p.m. in the 1900 block of Newhouse Street.

Sheriff's homicide detectives said Juan Alexander Dubon, 31, arrived home drunk and started to argue with his parents.

He then reportedly shot his father, Juan Mejia, in the head.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

The suspect fled the house.

In Spanish, Mejia's brother-in-law told KCAL9's Suraya Fadel that he doesn't understand why his nephew killed his father.

He said the two men always got along.

He also told Fadel that Mejia, a native of El Salvador, was a good man with a big heart.

Dubon, who is considered armed and dangerous, is described as Guatemalan, 5 feet 2 inches tall, 117 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information about the suspect's whereabouts was asked to call the sheriff's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500 or 911 in case of an emergency.
