Body Found In Remote Modjeska Canyon Raises Speculation About Missing Woman

MODJESKA CANYON (CBSLA.com) — Orange Police confirm that a body was found Thursday in remote Modjeska Canyon.

The body was found out of normal Orange Police jurisdiction but they have a missing person's case and are trying to determine if the body belongs to a woman missing more than two weeks.

Maribel Ramos, 36, a war vet and Cal State Fullerton student, has been missing since May 2.

Stacey Butler, reporting for CBS2, was near a roadblock that was set up, a short distance from the crime scene -- where Santiago Canyon Road and Modjeska Canyon Roads meet.

Ramos' family has been worried sick about her. They've held several vigils and searches and hikes in her honor. They don't believe she would have willingly run off -- she was about to graduate and had a lot to live for. She is active in the church and her community. She hadn't missed a Friday evening softball game in six years.

Police would not say if the body belonged to Ramos.

At this point they would not say if the body found was male or female, the approximate age of the body or how long it had been there.
