Police Investigate Armed Robberies Targeting Joggers Near Silver Lake Reservoir

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Robbery detectives from the LAPD's Northeast Division are investigating two armed robberies near Silver Lake Reservoir.

Police said the suspects might be targeting joggers.

The first robbery was reported on April 29  near Silver Lake Boulevard and Armstrong Avenue around 9:20 p.m.

Officials say two suspects -- 18-20 year old Latinos, between 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall -- approached a jogger and demanded his property. When the victim refused, one of the suspects displayed a handgun. Fearing for his life, the victim surrendered his property The suspects ran to a waiting vehicle and fled.

A second robbery occurred  on May 6 around 8 p.m. near Silver Lake Boulevard and Hawick Street. In this crime, police said three suspects approached a jogger from behind and tackled him. After taking the victim's property, the suspects fled in a nearby vehicle.

The getaway vehicle has been described as a tan or silver 1998-2000, Toyota 4-door square back with tinted windows or a silver colored 1999-2002, 4-door Honda Accord.

The  Los Angeles Police Department want so remind people to walk/jog with a partner during daylight hours and to be mindful of their surroundings. They also advise if you see suspects who match the description to not approach them, call 911 and leave the area immediately.
