'Y&R' To Air Special Jeanne Cooper Tribute Episode May 28

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — "The Young and the Restless" announced Friday they will air a special tribute episode honoring the late Jeanne Cooper on May 28.

Cooper, a cast member for nearly the show's entire 40-year run, died Wednesday. She was 84.

The legendary star -- she played venerable rich grande dame Katherine Chancellor -- was one of the show's most popular cast members, on or off-screen.

The tribute will celebrate Cooper's life.

CBS announced cast members, friends and family will gather on set next week to share memories. Those tributes will make up the special as will Cooper's greatest moments on the show.

It was unclear if Cooper's son, actor Corbin Bernsen ("LA Law," "Psych") would take part. But he posted a photo on Facebook Friday showing a make-shift memorial cast and crew put together outside her dressing room door. He wrote, "I want to share a beautiful moment I had yesterday while visiting 'The Young and the Restless'. It is of my mom's dressing room door, which, for now remains closed. But the tributes outside are just... staggering. I wasn't sure if I was ready to see it but decided to anyway. I'm glad I did."

"Jeanne Cooper was a legend and we want to give her the tribute she deserves," said Angelica McDaniel, Senior Vice President, Daytime CBS. "The cast will honor their longtime friend, family member and co-worker in the greatest way possible, as we celebrate her life and vibrant spirit and share it with the audience who loved her as much as we did."
