Nurse At LA Medical Facility Accused Of Posting Pics Online Of Circumcised Baby Boys

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A man who claims to be a nurse at a Los Angeles medical facility allegedly posted photos online of baby boys after they've been circumcised.

In one picture on Instagram, the man is holding a baby in his arms. "Tryin to keep the baby stop from cryin after his circumcision i helped doc wit!!!" he wrote.

Another photo showed what appeared to be surgical equipment used for a circumcision with a caption that read, "Just prepped for another lol [explicit] to be snipped. Kinda sad how we strap um down."

The latter picture included the hashtag "White Memorial Medical Plaza," along with its phone number and address.

Although White Memorial Medical Plaza is on the campus of White Memorial Medical Center, located at 1720 E. Cesar E. Chavez Ave., the center said the nurse in the photos works at an "independent facility."

Alicia Gonzalez, a spokeswoman for White Memorial Medical Center, released a statement Tuesday which said, in part, "Upon further investigation, we can confirm that the person who posted these images is not an employee of White Memorial Medical Center and the images were not taken inside the hospital."

Legal analyst Steve Meister said the medical facility the pictures were taken at could see legal action taken against it.

"This is a flagrant, flagrant, outrageous violation of all patient privacy and confidentiality laws. Anybody who violates HIPAA is subject to sanctions or being fired or being sued or having their licenses called into question," he said.

White Memorial Medical Center said it would continue to investigate the situation.

Meantime, Saving Our Sons, an anti-circumcision organization, began an online campaign blasting the pictures.

"We use the photos to educate others about the truth about circumcisions," a spokeswoman told KCAL9's Brittney Hopper via Skype.
