LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — With the runoff election for Mayor of the city of Los Angeles about two weeks away, residents were urged to register to vote ahead of a Monday deadline.

The City Clerk’s Office said residents eligible to vote and registered voters who have moved or changed their names since the last election must register in order to cast their ballot in the run-off election between Wendy Gruel and Eric Garcetti on May 21.

Maria Garcia of the Election Division in the Los Angeles City Clerk’s office told KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO the easiest way for voters to register was to visit the website for the Office of the Los Angeles County Registrar Recorder/County Clerk’s Office at LAVote.net.

“Registering to vote has never been this easy, people can literally register to vote online,” Garcia said.

Voters may also register online at the California Secretary of State’s website or download the form and complete and return by mail.

Registration forms may also be available at the public counter of most Los Angeles City and County buildings, libraries, fire stations, post offices, and Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) offices.

Despite a low turnout for the primary election in March, Garcia said she expects more voters to head to the polls later this month.

“There certainly is a lot more attention being given to this election, primarily because we have two very qualified mayoral candidates that are running,” she said.
