Member Of House Budget Committee Demands End To Sequester

SAN FERNANDO VALLEY (CBSLA.com) —  A member of the House Budget Committee Friday demanded an end to the sequester.

Rep. Tony Cárdenas (D-San Fernando Valley),  issued a statement following the addition of more than 170,000 American jobs in April.

"America has shown that we are resilient, and that we are continuing to fight, as we emerge from a worldwide economic downturn," said Cárdenas. "Under President Obama's leadership, we have now created private sector jobs every single month for more than three straight years. However, we should be doing better."

Cardenas, who represents California's 29th Congressional district, added that sequestration is not helping the country move ahead. "Our economic growth is being cut by the guillotine known as sequestration. Without this clumsy, wasteful, across-the-board cut, our nation's economy would be performing better and we could spend in a way that invests in our future while responsibly shrinking our deficit. I have written budgets before and I know that a responsible solution is possible. When we return to Washington, I hope Speaker Boehner and Budget Chairman Ryan get us around a table with the Senate, so we can hammer out our differences, write a real, American budget and get this country on the right fiscal track."
