Driver Trapped In SUV Following Collision With Kidnapping Suspect In Willowbrook

WILLOWBROOK (CBSLA.com) — A kidnapping suspect was arrested Wednesday morning after striking another vehicle during a pursuit.

The brief chase started around 6:13 a.m. when Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of an alleged kidnapping at a Ralph's store near University Drive and Avalon Boulevard in Carson, officials said.

Authorities said Lawrence Dickerson, 36, was driving a Nissan sedan when he got into an altercation with a woman outside the grocery store and tried to kidnap her.

Deputies then spotted the suspect, who led them on a chase that lasted under five minutes before his vehicle crashed into a Chevy SUV at the intersection of 135th Street and Avalon in Willowbrook.

Dickerson's vehicle caught fire and he managed to take off on foot before being arrested.

The unidentified driver of the Chevy was trapped inside her vehicle as a result of the crash. The woman was later transported to a local hospital where she was listed in stable condition.
