Hollendorfer, Bejarano Win Wilshire Handicap At Hollywood Park

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer and jockey Rafael Bejarano teamed to win the $150,000 Wilshire Handicap on Sunday at Betfair Hollywood Park, capping an opening weekend in which they each won four stakes races in 24 hours.

They collaborated for three of their wins. Halo Dolly defeated 14-1 long shot Long Face by 1 1/2 lengths in the Wilshire. On Saturday, Hollendorfer and Bejarano combined to win the Melair and Tiznow stakes during California Gold Rush day.

Halo Dolly ran a mile on the turf in 1:34.18 and paid $8, $4.60 and $3.20.

"I had a good position from the beginning," said Bejarano, who had three other wins Sunday. "All I had to do is follow the speed. This was my first time riding her and I was comfortable the whole race. When I came to the stretch I just let her go. I didn't really have to ask her too much, just a couple of taps on the shoulder."

Bejarano also won four races on Friday, and he is closing in on 3,000 wins.

Long Face returned $11.80 and $5, while Moone's My Name was another half-length back in third and paid $2.40 to show.

Halo Dolly, co-owned by Hollendorfer, has 15 career wins in 29 starts and earnings of $752,786.
