Colton Woman, 74, Critical After Being Attacked By Pit Bull

COLTON (CBSLA.com) — Authorities in Colton say a 74-year-old woman is in critical condition after being attacked by a pit bull.

Margarita Negrete was attacked just before 6 p.m. Saturday in the 500 block of W. N Street.

Officers responded to a call of an attacking pit bull and found the animal biting the women around the head.

Authorities said the dog had already killed one of the family's other dogs.

Police said they attempted to get the dog off the woman when it tried to attack them. Officers shot and killed the animal.

Negrete was transported to a hospital where she underwent surgery for serious head wounds.
