My Big Fat Greek Wedding's Nia Vardalos Discusses Her New Parenting Book, 'Instant Mom'

STUDIO CITY (CBSLA.com) — Nia Vardalos, Academy Award-nominated writer and star of My Big Fat Greek Wedding, stopped by KCAL9 News Tuesday to discuss her new parenting book, Instant Mom.

The tome takes a humorous look at how she came to the decision to adopt her daughter, then a preschooler, with only 14 hours notice after struggling to become pregnant.

Vardalos, 50, describes how she and her husband, Ian Gomez, found their little girl and explores the challenges all new moms face, from sleep to personal grooming.

The book features a How to Adopt Appendix which gives an overview of the domestic, international and foster adoption processes, criteria for prospective parents, adoption requirements and costs and resources for financial aid, including an organization that awards grants of up to $15,000 to adoptive parents.
