Vandalism Suspect Wounded In Maywood Deputy-Involved Shooting

MAYWOOD (CBSLA.com)  — A deputy-involved shooting involving a vandalism suspect was under investigation Thursday, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department officials said.

The shooting happened around 11:40 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Everett Avenue and E. 58th Street in Maywood after officers responded to a vandalism call.

When deputies arrived on scene, they found a female and male suspect.

"The 31-year-old male suspect was acting suspiciously and reached for his waistband, resulting in a deputy-involved shooting," Deputy Kim Manatt said in a statement.

The unidentified suspect was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive.

"A large spray paint can was recovered from the suspect's pocket, although no weapon was recovered," Deputy Manatt said.

Charges are pending against both suspects.

No deputies were injured.
