Russell Brand Becomes Latest Celebrity Swatting Victim
HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Comedian and actor Russell Brand is the latest celebrity to become a victim of "swatting."
Los Angeles police responded around 3:30 p.m. Monday to Brand's Hollywood home in the 1800 block of North Doheny Drive after they received a call about a man with a gun, department officials said.
The report turned out to be false and Brand was not home at the time of the call.
The practice of making a hoax call about crimes at celebrities' homes has become known as swatting because it can lead to large-scale response by police and sometimes a SWAT team.
Other celebrity swatting victims include Ashton Kutcher, P. Diddy, Miley Cyrus, Kanye West, Justin Bieber and Justin Timberlake.
