Crossing Guard Hit By Car After Shoving Child Out Of It's Path

EL MONTE (CBSLA.COM) — A street crossing guard is in critical but stable condition at the hospital after shoving a child out of the path of a car and taking the impact herself.

The incident happened at E Fineview St. and N Durfee Ave early Tuesday morning.

"I was in shock when I got a phone call that my mom was injured by a car," Iliana Torres, the victim's daughter, said. "Cops were telling me that she is lucky to be alive."

The driver of the car refused to stop after hitting the 52 year old crossing guard, who pushed a young boy out of the car's way, according to authorities.

Witnesses say the crossing guard was thrown 70-to-80 feet after being struck by the car.

A witness was reportedly able to record the car's license plate number.
