Riverside College In Shock After Student Body President Revealed To Be Sex Offender

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — Students at Riverside Community College were shocked when it was revealed that the student body president was a registered sex offender.

Someone posted flyers all over campus Monday that said Doug Robert Figueroa, 40, who was elected to represent students in May 2012, was a "molester of children."

Figueroa, who can be found on California's Megan's Law website, was convicted of kidnapping and molesting a child under 14 in 2011.

He was later put on 10 years' probation.

School officials claim Figueroa volunteered the information and it was put on file when he enrolled.

RCC administrators also said that when it comes to running for school president, "There was no policy, statute or ordinance that could prohibit this student from seeking office."

Some students said they wished officials would have come clean sooner.

"It's the right thing to be warned about. There are kids that do come here that are younger age, who aren't college students…even us, just for our protection," said Alana Flores.

A woman who knows Figueroa well told CBS2's Juan Fernandez off-camera that she never saw her friend around children.
