Elderly Man Killed By Freight Train In Pomona

POMONA (CBSLA.com) — An elderly man was killed by a freight train Friday morning while walking across a stretch of train tracks in Pomona.

The man, who was using a walker, was crossing the tracks around 6:45 a.m. at Park Avenue and First Street just west of the Pomona Station when he was struck by a Union Pacific freight train.

The accident happened at a crossing where signs indicate trains do not sound their horns, authorities said.

The freight train stopped a few blocks away.

Two westbound Metrolink trains were delayed for two hours while officials investigated the accident.

The death of the unidentified man is being investigated by the Pomona Police Department.
