Woman Questions Boyfriend's Death At Twin Towers Jail In Downtown LA

PACOIMA (CBSLA.com) — A woman is devastated by the death of her boyfriend while he was in custody at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown Los Angeles.

Dawn Hines said 60-year-old Terry Kubler of Sunland was arrested at his home Feb. 14 by the Los Angeles Police Department's Foothill Division.

Hours later, Hines said she was notified that he died at Men's Central Jail.

Hines believes Kubler suffocated after officers who detained him refused to take him medical supplies for a breathing tube.

Hines said Kubler recently underwent heart surgery and was in and out of the hospital to deal with his tracheal tube, which required a kit and constant cleaning to help him breathe.

"His breathing tube was something that had to be cleaned constantly," said Hines.

The LAPD would not confirm that information.

Coroner's officials are still conducting an autopsy. Kubler's exact cause of death has been deferred due to pending toxicology reports.

Hines, who laid Kubler to rest this past weekend, couldn't hold back her tears as she talked about her loss.

"I love him. And I miss him. He's a good guy," she cried.
