Puig Is Double Short Of Cycle To Lead Dodgers Past A's

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Yasiel Puig had a two-run homer and a triple among his four hits Tuesday, leading the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 7-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics.

The 22-year-old Cuban outfielder who signed a seven-year, $42 million contract with the Dodgers in July homered in the first -- his third of spring training -- a towering shot over fellow Cuban and A's left fielder Yoenis Cespedes. Puig singled in the third and fifth -- he was thrown out at second on a throw from Cespedes in the fifth. He tripled to left field in the seventh.

Cespedes countered with a home run in the fifth, a solo shot, to left field -- over Puig's head.

Chris Capuano started instead of Chad Billingsley, who bruised his right index finger in a bunting drill Friday. In 5 2-3 innings, Capuano, gave up five hits, a run and struck out four.
