2 Officers Injured In Deadly Ventura Police Shooting

VENTURA (CBSLA.com) — Two police officers are recovering Friday after they were run over by a suspect in a deadly officer-involved shooting at a Ventura County motel.

The shooting happened around 7 p.m. Thursday at a Motel 6 in the 2100 block of Harbor Boulevard in Ventura.

Police were called to the scene by an employee who reported a disturbance with a guest who needed to be evicted, officials said.

The two responding female officers were escorting the suspect down the stairs when he got away, jumped into a pickup truck and ran over the pursuing officers.

"About that time, an officer-involved shooting occurred. When back-up officers arrived, they found the injured officers and they found that the suspect was deceased inside the truck," Asst. Police Chief David Wilson of the Ventura Police Department said.

One officer was treated for minor injuries and released. The other woman, 10-year veteran of the Ventura Police Department, was last listed in serious condition, but her injuries are not life threatening.
