Fontana Man Arrested After Wife's Body Found In Chino Field

FONTANA (CBSLA.com) — A 40-year-old Fontana man was arrested Thursday after his missing wife's body was found in a Chino field.

Victor Lopez was taken into custody on suspicion of homicide after he led detectives to the body of Lorna Lopez, 40, in an area in the 17300 block of Cucamonga Road.

He will be booked at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.

The man's nephew, 38-year-old Joseph Rodriguez, was arrested on suspicion of being an accessary to homicide.

Victor and Lorna Lopez were both reported missing Tuesday by their four children, ages 8 to 18.

On Thursday, officials said Victor Lopez showed up to his mother's home in Huntington Park around 6:30 a.m.

"(He said) that he had seen himself on the television, knew that we were actively seeking him and wanted them to assist him in turning himself in," Fontana police said.

Lopez was taken back to Fontana for further investigation. After hours of questioning, he finally told authorities where to find his deceased spouse.

Although the woman's body hasn't been positively identified, detectives believe it's Lopez's wife.

"They have reason to believe it's Lorna. However, we have not confirmed that yet," said Sgt. Robert Morris.

The motive for the killing is unknown.

The couple, however, had a rocky relationship and had been estranged for several years, according to family members.

Police said the victim announced she wanted a divorce this past weekend.

The victim's grieving brother, Carlos Ramos, said he was devastated by the entire situation.

"I don't know what went through (Victor's) mind when he did this….if, in fact, he did it. He's obviously disturbed," he said.

Ramos said his heart is breaking for the couple's children.

"They know what happened. They're coping in their own way. They're strong kids. They got that from their mother," he said.
