Attempted IE Bank Robbery Latest In 'Luger Bandit' Spree

SAN DIMAS (CBSLA.com) — The FBI and Southland police are searching for a man they believe is responsible for two armed bank heists in the last couple of months and an attempted robbery at a San Dimas bank Sunday.

The suspect has been dubbed the "Luger Bandit" because he brandishes a silver, German Luger-style gun at employees and customers while demanding they drop to the ground. He orders employees to hand over cash in various denominations.

Law enforcement from Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties released bank surveillance video Sunday from a Jan. 3 robbery at a Wells Fargo in Granada Hills, a Feb. 18 robbery at a Wells Fargo in Fontana and an attempted robbery at a Wells Fargo in San Dimas.

Surveillance video shows the robbery suspect wearing hooded sweatshirts and jeans, as well as a face mask, sunglasses and black gloves. He also carries a black bag with a strap to collect the money.

Witnesses have described the suspect as white or Hispanic, between 30 and 40 years old, between 5 foot 8 inches and 6 feet tall and weighing approximately 200 pounds.

Anyone with information as to the identity or the whereabouts of the unidentified suspect known as the Luger Bandit is urged to contact the FBI or dial 911. In Los Angeles, the FBI can be reached 24 hours a day at 1888 CANT HIDE (888 226-8443).  For those who wish to remain anonymous, call "LA Crime Stoppers" at (800) 222-TIPS (8477), texting the letters TIPLA plus your tip to CRIMES (274637), or using the website http://lacrimestoppers.org
