Suspect In Deputy Shoot Out Called 'Person Of Interest' In Elderly Woman's Murder

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — A man police say shot at Sheriff's deputies in Yucaipa Friday has been named a "person of interest" in the murder of an elderly Riverside woman last month.

Brian Forrett, 52, rented a room from the victim.

Jeff Nguyen, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, spoke to Roger Seliner, one of Forrett's roommates.

Seliner thought Forrett was trouble from day one. "The first time I saw him I just knew he was nuts."

Forrett is accused of attempted murder for shooting at a deputy in Yucaipa Friday. A vehicle matching the description of the one Forrett was reportedly driving was found in the Angelus Oaks area off Highway 38 near mile marker 22 Saturday. A body was also found inside the vehicle. Officials would not say if it was a match for Forrett.

Riverside Police say Forrett is a person of interest in the murder of 79-year-old Wanda Rose Heczko – Forrett's former landlord.

Heczko evicted him in January -- about a month before her murder. Another tenant, Rich Maguire, said, "he threatened to kill her several times."

An autopsy revealed Heczko was the victim of foul play.

Nguyen toured the room Forrett rented.

The current renters say before he left – Forrett stole an air conditioner by ripping it out of the window.

"You can see right here where he broke the light out. And you can't turn the fan on because he broke everything off in here," said Maguire.

The tenants of the home say police came by with assault weapons yesterday and searched the house after getting a report that Forrett's car was spotted nearby.

Seliner is glad Forrett is gone from their house. "Nobody had the right to do stuff he did. And I don't think going to court and going to prison and all that stuff I don't think that is fitting for him."
