EASTVALE (CBSLA.com) — A sounding fire alarm at an Eastvale home led to the discovery of a large-scale marijuana grow, authorities announced Sunday.

Deputies were called to a home in the 6500 block of Gladiola Street by responding firefighters about 12:05 p.m. Saturday.

According to a statement posted on the Riverside County Sheriff's Department website, deputies removed close to 1,000 marijuana plants in various stages of development after obtaining a search warrant.

They also seized 40 pounds of processed marijuana, the statement said.

The alleged grow had an estimated street value of more than $900,000.

The statement said investigators also determined that electricity was being diverted from the home's meter.

"[Southern California] Edison estimated that the theft of utilities was over $3,100.00 per month," the statement said.

Anyone with more information about the incident was asked to contact Deputy J. Morando at the Jurupa Valley Station at (951)955-2600.
