Rash Of Armed Robberies Reported Near UC Riverside Campus

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — Police are looking for three suspects at the center of a one-night crime wave near the UC Riverside campus.

The three suspects committed at least five armed robberies in one hour Wednesday evening.

CBS2 and KCAL9 reporter Greg Mills spoke to one of the robbery victims Friday.

Jacob Moore, a UCR student, was held up just off the campus. "He points the gun at my face and I just see the barrel and his two eyes and I'm in shock."

Moore had just finished playing basketball on-campus and was walking on a path in front of a church when he saw a man get out of a parked car and point a gun at his face.

The man told Moore, "Give me everything you've got."

He said he didn't have much to give: A gym bag with thrift store clothes, old sneakers, his wallet, cell phone and car keys. Moore says, "Honestly the stuff I had on me wasn't worth killing me over."

The suspect fled with everything but the keys.

Four more people were robbed between 8 and 9 p.m.

Student Kate Bleyer knew about the robberies. "As a girl living in this area, that's very scary at night. I know some of my guy friends have been a little more insistent about walking us to our cars."

Police are "very aggressively" pursuing the suspects, reports Mills.
