Former OC Teacher Sentenced For Kissing, Hugging 14-Year-Old Student

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — A former Orange County teacher was sentenced to one year in jail after pleading guilty to kissing and hugging a 14-year-old female student.

Fullerton resident Joshua Alexander Evans, 33, was also placed on three years of formal probation and will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, Deputy District Attorney Jess Rodriguez said.

The former English teacher developed a relationship with one of his students at El Rancho Charter School between December 2011 and January 2012.

The two met at another student's home at least three times, where they "made out and hugged," Rodriguez said. They also exchanged text messages and emails.

The girl's mother reported the relationship to school officials, who contacted Anaheim police, Rodriguez said.

If the case had gone to trial, Evans could have faced up to three years and eight months in state prison.
