Club Soccer Coach Arrested For Inappropriate Relationship With Teenage Player

IRVINE (CBSLA.com) — A 26-year-old club soccer coach is facing two felony charges of lewd acts with a minor after he allegedly had a relationship with a female player.

Ian Matthew Ebert was arrested by Irvine police Thursday morning at his home in Northern California.

According to police, authorities were notified by a high school counselor Monday of an inappropriate relationship between an adult male and one of her female students.

"The victim, a 15-year-old Irvine resident, had intermittent contact with Ebert through her participation in club soccer," Lt. Julia Engen said in a statement.

The alleged relationship occurred between August and December of last year when Ebert lived in Irvine and worked as a coach for a private soccer club.

"Ebert is also a prior employee of the Irvine Unified School District where he served as a boys' varsity soccer coach at two different campuses between 2009 and 2012," Engen said.

There is no indication that Ebert's contact with the victim is related to his employment at either high school.

He is being held on $100,000 bail.
