Nurse's Body Found In Car Trunk Near Casino In Hawaiian Gardens

HAWAIIAN GARDENS (CBSLA.com) — Authorities on Sunday were investigating the circumstances surrounding the mysterious death of a woman whose body was found in the trunk of a SUV in Hawaiian Gardens.

The discovery was made about 9:20 a.m. near a casino in the 11800 block of Carson Street.

A statement issued by the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department described the deceased as a female adult. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

CBS2 and KCAL9 reporter Cristy Fajardo went to the Coroner's office where the woman's body and her car were taken.

She said "investigators don't have a lot to go on."

The woman has been identified as a 57-year-old nurse from West Covina.

Fajardo says the woman works the overnight shift and was last seen Friday morning. When she didn't come home, the woman's husband got worried and filed a missing person's report.

Family came to the parking lot, found the car and called police, according to Lt. John Corina of the LA County Sheriff's. "When we checked the car, that's when we found the body," he said.

Police told Fajardo they believed the woman was killed elsewhere and then returned to the parking area of the casino.

It was unclear what led the woman's family to believe her car might be at the casino.

Anyone with information about this case was asked to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
