CASTAIC (CBSLA.com) — The Grapvine section of Interstate 5 reopened Friday morning after a weather closure stranded thousands of people overnight.

"We're extremely cold . . . and it's like, freezing. We're all bundled up back here," stranded traveler Steven Rodriguez said.
The California Highway Patrol reopened the southbound lanes just before 8 a.m. Drivers were escorted along northbound lanes at 9 a.m. The freeway was completely reopened with unrestricted access around 9:30 a.m.
Freezing temperatures and ice on the roadway prevented the CHP from opening the roadway earlier.
