Riverside Police Investigate Link Between 3 Separate Home Invasions

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — Detectives Friday continued to investigate a possible connection between three home invasions in Riverside.

The latest incident occurred at the Magnolia Garden Senior Apartments about 9:10 a.m. Thursday.

CBS2's Art Barron reports that the victim, identified as a woman in her 90s, reported an intruder inside her residence.

"At this point during the investigation, there is no sexual assault other than Thursday's incident. The suspect attempted to kiss the 90-year-old female," said Detective Phil Fernandez of the Riverside Police Department.

The suspect fled before police arrived.

Investigators collected evidence, and witnesses provided a description of the suspect.

Police believe the same suspect broke into another elderly woman's house a week ago in a residential area located near La Sierra Avenue and the Riverside (91) Freeway. A third intrusion occurred in that section that same week.

In all three incidents, authorities report that the victims were unharmed.

"Investigators believe that, yes, the incidents are similar," said Fernandez.

The suspect is described by police as a dark-skinned Black man between the ages of 30 and 50. He is about 5-feet, 10-inches tall with short dark hair. He was last seen wearing dark baggy pants. Witnesses said he was unshaven, unkempt look.

Officials are encouraging Riverside residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activity. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Rita Cobb at (915) 353-7120.
