Woman, 21, Charged In Murder Of Toddler Who Died After Eating Chili Powder

APPLE VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — A 21-year-old woman has been charged with murder in the death of a toddler who died after eating chili powder.

San Bernardino County Sheriff's officials Sunday received a call about a child suffering a seizure after ingesting the spice in the 20000 block of Cayunga Road.

Joileen G, 2, was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead, officials said.

Following an initial investigation, Amanda Sorensen, the girlfriend of the child's father, was arrested early Monday morning on charges of child abuse resulting in death.

An autopsy is pending to determine exactly how the child died.

Sorensen is expected to appear in court sometime Wednesday afternoon.
