Bejarano Wins 4 Races, 2 Of Them Stakes, At Santa Anita Opening Day

ARCADIA (CBSLA.com) Jockey Rafael Bejarano becomes the fourth jockey since 1991 to win four races at Santa Anita's opening Day Tuesday, the day after Christmas.

Bejarano's 4-win day included two stake races. He won the $300,000 La Brea Stakes(Race 4) with Book Review and trainer Bob Baffert, and the $150,000 Sir Beaufort Stakes(Race 5) aboard Silentio with trainer Gary Mandella.

"It's great to be here on opening day and to win a Grade I, that's like a Christmas gift to myself," said Baffert after winning his 7th La Brea Stakes.

Garret Gomez with Jimmy Creed won the 7-Furlong $300,000 Malibu Stakes (Race 8).

The other three jockeys who won four races on opening day are: Gary Stevens(1991), Garret Gomez(2006) and David Flores (2007).

Santa Anita had an attendance of 27,273 people.
