Bedridden Elderly Woman Dies Following Ladera Heights Apartment Fire

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A homicide investigation is underway following an apartment fire in Ladera Heights.

The fire was reported about 10:53 p.m. Friday in a unit at the building in the 6700 block of Spring Park Drive.

Upon arriving on scene, firefighters were able to put out the blaze in 20 minutes.

A female victim, who was pulled from a unit, was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.

According to KNX 1070 Newsradio, the victim was in her 90s and bedridden.

City News Service reports that two other people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the incident is being treated as a homicide.

It was not immediately known how many residents, if any, were displaced by the fire.
