Palmdale Officers To Issue 'Good Parking Tickets' For Gift Cards, Baskets

'Good Parking Tickets' In Palmdale
City of Palmdale Parking Enforcement Officer Matthew McClanahan will be part of the team that will be issuing "good parking" tickets throughout Palmdale now through Dec. 24.

PALMDALE (CBSLA.com) — This Christmas season could bring some unexpected joy to courteous drivers in the city of Palmdale.

Starting Tuesday, parking enforcement officers will be issuing "good parking" tickets to motorists who display "good parking habits."

Drivers who are "cited" will either receive gift cards from The Yard House or holiday gift baskets from The Body Shop.

The "tickets" will be distributed to anyone seen "displaying courtesy and kindness while your out and about shopping," according to the city of Palmdale's Facebook page.

All "good parkers" will be entered into a drawing to win an annual parking pass from Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority valued at $450, and which covers the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy area, including several beaches.

"We tried this last year and the response from our residents was overwhelmingly positive," said Palmdale's Parking Enforcement Supervisor Dulce Gomez. "It's so easy to get stressed out during the holiday season, and with all the crowds out there shopping, it can make relatively simple things like finding a good parking space frustrating."

Gomez denied, however, that the campaign would distract officers from conducting police business.

"[They] will continue to patrol the city as part of our usual daily routines," said Gomez. "However, we are hoping to give out more 'Good Parking Tickets' and gift cards than violations."

The tickets will be issued through Dec. 24.
