Lancaster Pursuit Suspect Pleads Not Guilty To Killing 2-Year-Old

LANCASTER (CBSLA.com) — A Palmdale man pleaded not guilty to murder Monday in connection to a high-speed pursuit that killed a toddler and severely injured the child's mother in Lancaster last week.

Marvin Travon Hicks, 45, was charged with one count of murder and one count of felony evading an officer causing injury in the death of 2-year-old Madison Faye Ruano.

On Thursday, deputies spotted Hicks, who was driving a black Toyota, run a red light at Sierra Highway and Avenue J, according to Sgt. Paul Pfrehm from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Hicks allegedly refused to make a traffic stop and sped off north on Sierra Highway, where he reportedly continued to run through red lights.

Shortly after 5 p.m., Hicks drove through a red light at the intersection of Avenue I and 10th Street West, where he struck a blue Lexus carrying Madison and her mother, Tina Marie Ruano.

The Ruanos were transported to a local hospital, where the youngster later died.

The suspect, whose next court appearance is Dec. 19, is being held on $1.1 million bail.

Hicks faces life in prison if convicted of the charges.
