Deputies Kill Beaumont Man Who Allegedly Threatened To Murder Wife

BEAUMONT (CBSLA.com) — A 38-year-old Beaumont man was fatally shot by sheriff's deputies Monday after he allegedly threatened to murder his wife.

A woman called police around 9 a.m. and told them her husband was trying to kill her at a home on Brookside and Morgan avenues.

Officials arrived on the scene and found the suspect outside of the residence on his cellphone.

When authorities approached the man, he went into the garage.

Deputies said the man's wife, whose young child was with her, locked the garage door so the suspect couldn't get inside the house.

California Highway Patrol officers sent a K-9 in the garage, but the suspect shot and injured the dog.

SWAT members said deputies were forced to shoot and kill the armed man when he tried to break into the home.

"In a situation like this, if a suspect is armed and threatening to kill somebody, it's a safety of the personnel that we have to take care of," said Deputy Albert Martinez from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

The suspect's wife and child were uninjured.
