Officials Believe They Have Nabbed The 'Tiger Bandit'

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The LA County Sheriff's Department has arrested a serial bank robber they dubbed the "Tiger Bandit."

Winston Damian Evans, who was arrested Tuesday, is described as a 32-year-old drifter from Compton.

The suspect was nicknamed "Tiger Bandit" because in several of his alleged robberies he wore a Detroit Tigers baseball cap.

Tiger Bandit is accused of robbing at least five banks in Santa Monica, Long Beach, Lomita, Huntington Beach and Marina del Rey.

Officials said they located Evans Tuesday staying at a relative's house where they served a search warrant.

Detectives said they recovered clothing used in the robberies as well as a quantity of cash. Authorities also seized a silver Nissan Altima believed to be used in the commission of the Santa Monica heist.

Officials said Evans admitted to all five of the robberies.

Anyone with more information in this case is asked to call Detectives Mark Martinovich or Gina Kolowski of the LASD Major Crimes Detail at (562) 946-7893.
