Murrieta Police Shoot And Kill Vicious Akita

MURRIETA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities in Murrieta say police shot and killed an Akita who went on a rampage attacking two dogs -- killing at least one -- and charging at police officers.

The 150-pound Akita viciously mauled a much smaller Welsh Corgi as its female owner was walking it at 7:53 a.m. Friday in the 24400 block of Skyview Ridge, Murrieta police Lt. Rob Firmes said.

The woman struck the Akita with an umbrella to try to get the dog off of hers. Passersby also came to the woman's aid and the Akita eventually ran off.

Firmes said the Corgi later died.

Officers caught up to the Akita and called Animal Control.

The Akita reportedly then attacked a pug that was leashed on its front porch at a home on Alicia Way and Alondra Drive.

Officers had to use a Taser to get the Akita to drop the pug.

Firmes said the pug's owner was able to retreat with the dog into their home. There is no word on the pug's condition.

Officers said the Akita then charged them forcing them to shoot.
