Armed Robbery Suspect Killed By Sheriff's Deputies In Highland

HIGHLAND (CBSLA.com) — San Bernardino Sheriff's deputies shot and killed an armed robbery suspect Friday morning in Highland.

Officials said the unidentified suspect was shot as he left a Days Inn Motel in the 1300 block of East Highland Avenue.

Detectives had staked out the motel overnight and said they confronted the suspect as he left the motel around 9:30 this morning.

Rachel Kim, reporting from the scene for CBS2 and KCAL9, said authorities were being mum about the circumstances of the shooting.

Officials did tell Kim the man they shot and killed was a violent armed robbery suspect who was wanted for a string of recent crimes in Highland, San Bernardino and Redlands over the past several weeks.

The suspect was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.

Authorities said they took a female friend of the robbery suspect into custody for questioning.

Cindy Bachman of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's department said, "Homicide investigators have not released any details, at this time, about what occurred, exactly what occurred, after the suspect left the motel room. I don't know anything about him. I don't any any information about him yet. I just have to wait until he is identified."

It was unclear if the robbery suspect was armed at the time of the shooting.
