Defensive Coordinator Monte Kiffin To Resign After USC's Bowl Game

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) The USC athletic department says that defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin will resign after their bowl game.

Monte, who is the father of head coach Lane Kiffin, spent three seasons with the Trojans, but came under scrutiny at the end of the season after the Trojans allowed 396 yards per game this season --ranked 63rd in the nation.

"I wanted to make this announcement now so that our players who are preparing for the bowl game and our recruits who will be visiting campus are aware," said Monte Kiffin. "I really enjoyed my time at USC and the opportunity I had to work with our players and coaches. The chance to work for my son, Lane, was unique and memorable, but we always treated each other professionally on a coach-to-coach basis."

Monte,72, made announcement early because he wanted to be fair for any potential recruits that want to commit to USC.

Monte will look to return to the NFL. He spent 13 seasons with the Tampa Bay and has 26 years of experience coaching in the NFL.
