HYDE PARK (CBSLA.com) — The EJ Jackson Foundation is giving away 10,000 Thanksgiving meals to those in need Tuesday at the 30th Annual Jackson Limousine Service Turkey Dinner Giveaway.

KNX 1070's Pete Demetriou reported they have been handing out free dinners with all the trimmings at 3669 West Slauson Avenue since 8 a.m. and will continue to until around 7 p.m.

EJ Jackson, the founder of Jackson Limousine Service, organizes the event providing turkeys, cornbread, greens, yams, cranberry sauce and more to senior citizens on fixed incomes and other families in need.

"I'm truly blessed, and to be in this kind of business and to meet so many people, it's an opportunity to share the blessings they've given me," Jackson said.

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and 300 volunteers served thousands who lined up along Hillcrest Drive.

"It's great to give back, period, to anybody. You get to help people out when they are in need, whether or you know them or you don't. It's a beautiful thing for all of us to help," volunteer Azmyth Kaninski said.

This year, the company also accepted donations from the public.

Veronica Ortiz was among those waiting near the head of a line that stretched over two-and-a-half blocks, and while the 7-hour wait was a little humbling, she said she's thankful her family will have a hearty meal to prepare on Thursday.

"My mom, she mostly prepares everything, so whatever I take to her, she's gonna prepare it, and then I'll make the macaroni and cheese, and my sister'll make yams," Ortiz said.
