The accident happened around 3:45 p.m. near Foothill Boulevard and Filmore Street.

“A small Volkswagen Jetta travelling southbound on Foothill struck a van that was trying to turn left on Filmore. The (Jetta) was traveling at a high rate of speed, left the road and hit with such a force… that it popped around a light (pole),” said Capt. Jeffrey Bert from the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division.

Bert said the 19-year-old female passenger of the Jetta was killed on impact.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but police believe speed was the main factor.
