5-Hour Energy Drink Linked To Over A Dozen Deaths

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The high-caffeine shot, 5-hour Energy has been linked to more than 13 deaths since 2009.

The New York Times reported the drink has been mentioned in about 90 FDA filings in the past three years, including cases of serious or life-threatening injuries.

"It is important to note that submitting a serious adverse event report to the FDA, according to the agency itself, is not construed by FDA as an admission to that," Distributor of 5-Hour Energy, Elaine Lutz, said in a statement.

"The dietary supplement was involved, caused or contributed to the adverse event being reported, or that any person included in the report caused or contributed to the event."
