Accused Bank Robber Killed By Deputies Was 60-Year-Old Agua Dulce Man

LANCASTER (CBSLA.com) — The bank robbery suspect shot and killed by deputies Friday in Lancaster has been identified as a 60-year-old Agua Dulce man.

Steven Bowman led authorities on a chase Friday after allegedly robbing a Bank of America in Saugus around 10 a.m.

The suspect fled the scene in a silver Chevy SUV. A pursuit ensued on the northbound Antelope Valley (14) Freeway.

The chase ended in Lancaster near 10th Street West and West Avenue H4 after the front tire of the SUV flattened following the suspect running over a spike strip on the freeway.

Deputies said Bowman shot at them after his SUV stopped on the 45900 block of Desert Springs Drive, a  residential street in Lancaster.

Investigators told CBS2 and KCAL9 reporter Juan Fernandez on Friday that they searched the suspect's home and found dozens of guns, rifles, and ammo.

Officials said Bowman had recently filed for bankruptcy and lost his wife last year. They still are unable to explain what led up to the incident.

And investigation is on-going.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
