Breeders' Cup Returns To Arcadia This Weekend

ARCADIA (CBSLA.com) — The Breeders' Cup — the Super Bowl of Thoroughbred racing — returns to Santa Anita Park Friday and Saturday.

The races are expected to attract 100,000 fans for its 15 championship division races.

"We have $25.5 million on the line over the next two days," organizer Greg Ball said.

The first race will take place around 1 p.m. Friday.

Approximately 120 horses will compete in the event over two days.

"A lot of the horses you may have seen at the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, Belmont are going to be running," Ball said.

Breeder's Cup Schedule:

FRIDAY, NOV. 2

- Gates Open: 9 a.m.

- A Taste of L.A.: 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Enjoy a celebration of L.A.'s unique cuisine in the paddock fountain area in front of Santa Anita Park.

- First Post: 11:15 a.m.

- First Post: Breeders' Cup: 1:06 p.m.

The first of Friday's six Breeders' Cup Races which will be concluded with the $2 million Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic at 4:30 p.m.

- Breeders' Cup Zenyatta After Party: 5:30-10:30 p.m.

The second-annual event celebrating the great mare, who won the 2009 Breeders' Cup Classic at Santa Anita. It features a buffet, cash bar and Zenyatta memorabilia auction, with all proceeds from the $50 admission or $95 admission/buffet going to the Permanently Disabled Jockey Fund.

SATURDAY, NOV. 3

- Gates Open: 8 a.m.

- First Post: 10:05 a.m.

- First Post: Breeders' Cup: 10:35 a.m.

The first of Saturday's nine Breeders' Cup races, which will be concluded with the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic at 5:30 p.m.

- A Taste of LA: 11 a.m. -4 p.m.

- Post: Breeders' Cup Classic: 5:30 p.m.
